Drawing of young couple at party

Hey, Ya Drew Me BEFORE!

I had a fun time yesterday at the Dayton Country Club, sketching a series of five-year-olds. I was invited to provide a bit of Party entertainment fun with live drawings. The children were cute as all get-out and I will post some of those photos (with OKs from the moms of course) shortly. A gentleman was there doing photos as a courtesy to the guests and said, “Hey, I think you were at Doug Mann’s party!” Doug is a local attorney as you likely know, with Dyer, Garofalo, Mann and Schultz. And just a great guy, he and wife Beth are terrific people. So Mr. Chen had his drawing on his… Read More

How’s YOUR Business??

SLOWLY COMING BACK; HOW ABOUT YOU?? Our live-drawing business is getting back on its feet, happily, after more than two years seeming almost dead in the water. Somehow the lack of income has not been a problem (smart wife-manager here) but I have really missed the fun and challenges of quick-sketching at parties, weddings and trade shows. Calls are finally picking up lately and I am more than grateful. How about YOUR business? Back to normal yet?

Trade Show Fun

Recently I had the pleasure of sketching at a trade show just north of Cincinnati. A super group, everyone was happy to be there and enjoying the conversation and endless activities at hand. An Interview with WHO??

Recently I was invited to discuss the caricature business with Jean Neuhart of Weddings From The Heart. Having admired her posts on Linkedin for some time, that was way flattering. The interview was just published and predictably enough, she did a terrific job. Thank you, Jeannie! Here’s the link, gang: Dennis Porter interview

Setup for Artist

ARTIST SETUP @ Your Event

So you hired a quick sketch artist for your big event? Terrific! The layout will probably look something like these images… I speak for all us who work in live entertainment when I beg you most sincerely — PLEASE place us AWAY from the loudspeakers. The noise is brutal, to us AND to your guests. If your DJ can keep the volume down, your event will be far more enjoyable for all, believe me. Please contact me if you have questions.

Wedding Reception Goofiness

I am fortunate to be invited to draw caricatures at wedding receptions a LOT these days. This was a unique sketch at a reception held at The Willows in Tipp City, Ohio some time back. These adorable weirdos asked to be drawn as dinosaurs, SO… Anyway, it was  a super event, lots of fun and I look forward to the next reception. Maybe yours??

Fun Wedding Entertainment

This time of year I am flattered to be invited to draw at a LOT of weddings, usually at the reception following the ceremony, of course… These are always fabulously neat events, with the bride and groom starting out their lives together with a huge public event their friends and family will likely talk about for years. The energy is wonderful, charged with hope and promise and love and respect for all concerned. The live quick-sketching is always fun wedding entertainment, absolutely. Here’s a cute young couple at a very recent event… Notice the imprint at bottom of the sketch pad. I and my old pal John drew at this event and… Read More
