Do The Drawings WHERE ??

In all these many years of live drawing at fun events I have seen some interesting, unique concepts for various gatherings. On one occasion the hosts had maybe six artists including me, drawing outdoors in the blazing, broiling sun. No tents, no shade, no whining. Wanna get paid? Get out there! And we did. Anything for a buck, eh? It was awful, the sun on the paper and the sheer heat and humidity were daunting. At another, I was instructed to sit on the basketball court — against the wall behind the hoop. Where the kids would dribble and take shots at the hoop! Yow! I whined the host into… Read More

Surprise Gift, Drawing From Photo

Having JUST finished a rather large Drawing From Photos project — will share that in a week or two — this item came to mind. So I am shamelessly reposting it here. These really ARE the Ultimate Surprise Gifts. Thanks for reading!   Diane’s brother Mike, out in Los Angeles area, came up with an idea for  his pal, a fellow musician. Mike wanted to give him a special gift the fellow would absolutely LOVE — a drawing of him playing his favorite guitar. So Mike emailed photos of the gentleman and his very specific six-string. I did up a rough pencil layout for Mike to review and approve and… Read More

Wedding Venue BAD Choices

WEDDING VENUE, How To CHOOSE?? One of the major headaches for some couples planning their big day is going over the wedding venue choices. Where we gonna do this anyhow?? There are a LOT of factors required to be in that mix, so let’s try to list some of the most important ones to help your decision-making along. This is not a small thing, since the wedding overall is likely to cost $29,000-$31,000 on average, according to Wedding Stats.  Weddings are now a $48 billion industry (yes!), so obviously getting married is quite an investment on every level. But for now, let us focus on choosing the right place to… Read More

Fifth Grade is AWESOME!

I was recently contacted by Mr. Fleming, a fifth grade teacher in South Carolina who wished to have a graphic made — a BIG one that would fit on his classroom door. He has taught the same group since third grade, if I understood correctly, and works hard to encourage and stay connected with the students. Art supplies took a bit of extra effort, finding paper large enough that would take some watercolor (and be affordable) and be rolled up for mailing. And colors that would not require water saturation, just enough to fill in fairly consistently. That allowed me to take the budget down to a level he could… Read More

A Bit of Bass??

Diane and I used to attend a lot of concerts when our youngest grandson, Jake, was performing on his cello with an orchestra, including the Wright State Orchestra while he was still in high school. And as much as I enjoyed the show and the music I often found myself doodling a bit. Here are a drawing or two that popped up as he hit those notes so perfectly with his colleagues up there. (Now he’s doing well as a professional man in Columbus — after graduating OSU in three years, don’tcha know?) I wish you could all meet him, absolutely everybody loves Jake. Anyway here are a couple of… Read More

Harley Lovers, Times Three

I was recently approached by a gentleman needing a gift for his work colleagues. They were hard to buy for — until he thought of their shared LOVE of Harley-Davidson motorcycles. Yes! It took him a bit to find our Cars & Trucks caricature drawings on www.drawme.com but once there he knew the gift was in the bag. The bike shown is by no means precisely correct, but it is intended to be a vintage Harley with sidecar. The 1% on the shirt to our right refers to an old biker movie (The Wild One with Marlon Brando) in which it is argued that only One Percent of bikers are… Read More

Wedding Receptions ROCK!

After all these years in the Live Sketch caricature business, I have seen it all — ya think? Naaaaaahhhh… Not a chance, gang… I did this little item for a delightful couple in England (thanks to the internet, of course) for their wedding invitations and it was on display at the reception I believe. Never DID know what the CAT girls bit was about, but, hey, it’s their big day, so give them what they want, right? The BMW Honeymoon image below was commissioned by the Elvis-guy pal in the background there… He produced a CD with some joke songs he wrote for them and this was the CD cover.… Read More

A Birthday Call??

Some time back I had the chance to work with a fun group on tweaking the website for their business. They offer a service which makes phone calls to people for you, impersonating celebrities. So maybe you have The Arnold calling your mom to wish her a happy birthday, that sort of thing. They had me put together some of my drawings into a framework and used others one by one. Fun stuff. Here is their main page: http://www.thebirthdaycall.com/ Anyhow, they called again and we are getting into a whole new project now. This is SUCH a great job and Man, am I grateful to have it.
