DIFFERENT Fun for the Kiddies

It is often a chore for parents, teachers and others to come up with fresh, different ideas to entertain children at parties. There are only so many things you can do, especially on the typical limited budget and time available. Kids are like anyone else — they appreciate something new and novel, an unusual and fun experience, right? Sure, of course. So what do ya do, anyhow?? Here is an idea that was a LONG time coming to me and to my knowledge it’s nothing anyone else is offering out there (please advise if you find out differently). While drawing at an outdoor picnic a long time ago with my… Read More

Wedding Receptions ROCK!

After all these years in the Live Sketch caricature business, I have seen it all — ya think? Naaaaaahhhh… Not a chance, gang… I did this little item for a delightful couple in England (thanks to the internet, of course) for their wedding invitations and it was on display at the reception I believe. Never DID know what the CAT girls bit was about, but, hey, it’s their big day, so give them what they want, right? The BMW Honeymoon image below was commissioned by the Elvis-guy pal in the background there… He produced a CD with some joke songs he wrote for them and this was the CD cover.… Read More

Setup for Artist

ARTIST SETUP @ Your Event

So you hired a quick sketch artist for your big event? Terrific! The layout will probably look something like these images… I speak for all us who work in live entertainment when I beg you most sincerely — PLEASE place us AWAY from the loudspeakers. The noise is brutal, to us AND to your guests. If your DJ can keep the volume down, your event will be far more enjoyable for all, believe me. Please contact me if you have questions.

Celebrating RECOVERY…

UNIQUE PROJECT… Recently I was contacted by an amazing young mother with a very specific wish. Her daughter had been in a catastrophic accident — not expected to survive for a time — and mom wanted a drawing of her in recovery mode. So. Here she is, half her face paralyzed, unable to smile there, with surgical tape over part of her glasses (therapy, somehow). I left off the tracheotomy and some other items that have since been evolved through… The mom LOVED the pencil workup and the BW, now also loves this image, so all is well. And she was kind enough to grant my go-ahead to publish here… Read More

Is Your Event a CIRCUS??

Last weekend I was invited to sketch at one of the most fun events in my long history of Party Drawing. It seemed to be amazing for everyone there, far more than my usual, which is saying a lot. I do not say that lightly… after about forty years of drawing at thousands and thousands of events — parties, picnics, wedding receptions. company parties, trade shows, conventions, commercial gatherings (and a LOT more you don’t want to know about) — I am highly conscious of what a super job this is, that I am actually paid to have a good time. After all, if the artist is bored, the drawing… Read More

A Birthday Call??

Some time back I had the chance to work with a fun group on tweaking the website for their business. They offer a service which makes phone calls to people for you, impersonating celebrities. So maybe you have The Arnold calling your mom to wish her a happy birthday, that sort of thing. They had me put together some of my drawings into a framework and used others one by one. Fun stuff. Here is their main page: http://www.thebirthdaycall.com/ Anyhow, they called again and we are getting into a whole new project now. This is SUCH a great job and Man, am I grateful to have it.

Was Your Party A DRAG??

Drawing recently at a Cincinnati Area Board of Realtors picnic — with my old pal John, who was drawing with me — we both noted how some events are more FUN than others. The realtor’s picnic was great fun, nice people, really cool. Not every event is like that. It’s true. Yes. Sure, we know we have the best jobs in the world, maybe, but sometimes — yes, sometimes it’s not all that much of a thrill — even for us.  Not gonna whine, though, so please bear with me. I have a point here… somewhere… uh… — Oh, yeah! So some gatherings are just more enjoyable than others, right?… Read More

Kiddie Fun at Office Event??

It sometimes appears difficult for professionals to come up with interesting things for the children at the office picnic or other company event. Family entertainment can be a bit challenging, since the same offering as LAST year may not be interesting at all. And of course cost is a factor anytime. So what to do? Obviously I am biased here, but it occurs to me that I have been drawing at the same company gatherings for close to TWENTY years now in some cases, and well over ten years for others. It is VERY flattering that they call me back, sure, but the real payoff is that the same sweet… Read More

Ain’t Nothing Like Family…

Recently I was invited back to draw at a church picnic for maybe the tenth year in a row. Flattering, and always a fun event, too. You can not beat the vibe at those events. Nobody is there because they have to be, they WANT to see their neighbors and friends in that setting — and as they  say, it’s fun for the whole family… Nobody knows that better than this happy foursome. Hey, I love my job!
