A short time back I was contacted by a delightful young lady with a unique concept — come and draw a full body, COLOR portrait of two people — during church services. Yes!
So. This was to be the Pastor and his wife, the First Lady. Of the Mt Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, on Siebenthaler Avenue here in Dayton. To do it the way I wanted, it would involve watercolors.
And the punch line of course was I would be at the front of the church facing the congregation with my back to the pulpit. The pastor and wife would be seated in front of me, watching the first part of church services. Okay. Okay…
I plotted out how to go about this unusual project. And I leave it to you as to how I did. Up top here are the images, and the drama is spelled out at bottom here if you are interested —

— As noted, I had never done anything quite like this before. One thing nobody thought of was, I had almost NO light behind me and spotlights aimed toward the pulpit — blinding! Yow! Someone saw me struggling, apparently, and aimed the lights off to one side a bit, happily. And a confetti gun went off, blasting that everywhere, including on me and all my setup materials… But man do those people know how to PARTY!
Lots of dancing girls up front and wild costumes, a live rock and roll band, many laughs… It was great fun. My thanks to Alicia and the rest of the crew. A unique experience!
