WHEN Did THAT Change??

Okay, I know, I KNOW that things change. Sure. That is the nature of life itself — Change is the only constant. Absolutely. And it is a good thing. Yes. The only route to progress, obviously…

But when, exactly, did the economy of our mundane, routine lives get so completely out of whack?? I do not mean the big-ticket items like nice cars or expensive homes. I mean the BASIC items we need to bleeding survive here — when did those costs get absolutely absurd? Really.

Try buying a set of decent tires. It has not been that long since a good tire was about sixty bucks. Not now. Four good tires will set you back close to a thousand bucks now. I searched for weeks and finally got four on the van for about four hundred bucks last year and they are AWFUL… I regret saving the money!!

As I write this that same van is getting even more money  pumped into it, here at Car X in Kettering. A good shop, no problem with those guys. In the last year we have about five thousand dollars in van fixits of various flavors. Now it needs a catalytic converter (waiting on that one for a while) and today getting a set of plugs and wires for — get this — almost four hundred bucks. Yes. Plugs and wires. A top of the line spark plug is about seventeen dollars now. They were about two bucks in my wasted youth…

Time to go, van is ready. Limbering up my VISA card now…
